Rules from optakeover
Mon Jul 21, 2008 4:46 pm by fcwy1
1) Please post your threads in the correct category. If you do not know where it should belong, at least include in your subject or your message a line which is something like: "I don't know where to put this topic", "Does this thread belong here?" or "I hope I didn't put it(the thread) here wrongly..." or anything like these. The moderators will politely help you to move the topic on your behalf.

2) Do not double-post. It makes you seem to be more participative than you actually are, and they can be slightly disruptive. Please put all your content into one post as far as possible and only separate them into two posts(or more), giving reasons for doing so.

3) Try to stay to the topic as much as possible. However, the moderators know that this is quite hard. Optakeover has noticed in discussions members can post content, one which talking point is separate but related to the given issue, and members reply to them until the discussion enters another issue. We understand this problem, so reminders will just be given when this happen. Not to be confused with 4).

4) STRICTLY no spam threads/posts. This includes:

* Posts which has absolutely nothing to do with the issue discussed in the thread.(not to be confused with 3), which can happen gradually in an interesting discussion)

* Nuisance posts which are nonsensical and meaningless.

* Repeated posts which were made deliberately in large amounts for the purpose of disturbing Forum members.

* A combination of all the above.

5

* a) Do not post content that contains anything of obscene/vulgar, racist or content which can potentially be defamatory to any member. This is a public forum, and is visited by Primary school students who are part of the Cubing Community. Members copy-and-pasting information from other sources in the internet are to manually remove or change the words/images which contains anything of such sort. Any post that contains such content will be edited/deleted on sight.

* b) It is not advisable to discuss about religion or politics, but such topics are okay if the members can discuss in a friendly manner. However, if anyone were to be outraged by the discussion (not just for these topics, it can be of any topic), all parties are to stop discussing and get off the discussion.

6) Do not make personal attacks. This includes insulting the solves/attempts of a member solving a puzzle, his school/organisation and Forum posts/threads that a Forum member posted. Such comments are not tolerated. If you are putting it as a joke, please make sure you mention that in your post.

A word of 'sorry' or a request for moderators' help for issues regarding 5 b) and 6) is very much recommended and appreciated.

7) Use the Search tool before asking questions. Some of these questions would have been answered in other threads, and making more threads regarding the same questions is the reason why the Forum is full of unwanted, unvisited threads.

Cool To established members: PLEASE be friendly to newbies, even if they make mistakes on the Forum!

9) Please follow the other guidelines and advice which are set and given by other moderators. All of these are written to maintain a pleasant atmosphere in the Forum, so please co-operate with them by following them as well.

10) Use common internet and Forum courtesy, and please receive each other in good faith.

Although these are just guidelines, the moderators will also go by these guidelines and our own judgement in moderating the Forum. There are definitely rules that are not covered here or by other moderators but because of this, if you think that your post may cause a trouble, do not post it. Issues arising which are not covered in the guidelines will be handled on a case-by-case basis by the moderators.
Please abide to these guidelines to ensure that your experience in the Forum remains a happy and untroubled one.
